The BOD 63M Distance Laser Sensor
Time-of-flight measurement for targets up to 6 meters away.

The new BOD 63M has a rugged metal housing and a working range from 200 mm to 6 meters. Because of the long working range, the sensor can be mounted far enough away that it is shielded from harsh environments or can be used to measure objects that are up to 6 meters wide.

In this way, the BOD 63M is ideal for measurement of large objects such as logs, rolls of steel, and paper, as well as very hot or glowing metal objects.

Features

  • Virtually unaffected by reflective objects or color variations
  • Small laser spot for detecting small objects over large distances
  • Background suppression is adjustable over the entire working range
  • 2 discrete PNP or NPN outputs and 1 alarm output

The BOD 63M uses a Class II laser to meaure the propagation time of light to reach the target and reflect back. This time-of-flight technology provides better linearity (<2%), higher accuracy (≤1mm resolution), and longer ranges (6 meters) than traditional optical sensors that use triangulation or diffuse-intensity technologies.

Applications

  • Precise detection over large distances (installation constraints or when local temperatures are very high)
  • Detecting objects with changing colors, reflective surfaces, or at unfavorable angles to the light beam
  • Flexible solutions for position sensing, level control, distance or height measurement, and quality assurance
