Detects any target capable of reflecting light. Where the unit senses the light directly from the target. The emitter and receiver are in the same housing, the same as retroreflective; however, the receiver is more sensitive to the weaker light that is diffused by the surface of the target.

Sensing Range: 5-2000 mm

Advantage: Popular, good for small targets, handles many applications.
Disadvantage: Short range, affected by dirt, color dependent.

Applications: General purpose, color mark, label detection.

Background Suppression: Proximity (diffuse/technology) sensing mode that eliminates the influence of a background behind the target to be sensed. Also results in practical elimination of the influence of texture and color on the sensing distance.
